Man admits attacking ex-girlfriend
A Sandys man has been remanded pending sentencing after he admitted attacking a woman outside of her home.
Appearing in Magistrates’ Court this morning, Wayman Cariah, 47, pleaded guilty to a charge of causing grievous bodily harm to Crystal Burrows in an incident on February 9.
Prosecutor Garret Byrne told the court that the pair had been involved in an intimate relationship and that on the evening of the attack, the defendant called the complainant to collect a motorcycle and questioned her about who she was going out with.
Mr Byrne said that Cariah grabbed Ms Burrows by the chest during this confrontation and then left.
The court heard that approximately an hour later, the complainant saw the defendant standing on her driveway.
Mr Byrne said that the complainant then thought she saw Cariah’s bike on her neighbour’s property and went to check if this was the case.
He added that as she returned home Cariah appeared and punched her twice in the head, and after she fell to the ground he kicked her repeatedly.
Ms Burrows called the Police and was taken to hospital, where it was determined that she had suffered a broken nose and facial and scalp contusions.
In court, Cariah apologised and asked that his guilty plea be taken into consideration.
Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo ordered a social inquiry report and remanded Cariah into custody until May 11.
