Man to repay value of stolen phone

A St George’s man who threw away his former girlfriend’s phone was ordered to pay restitution in Magistrates’ Court this morning.

At a previous court appearance on April 16, Michael Wears, 26, had pleaded guilty to stealing a Blu cellphone belonging to Stevonte Somersall-Ahknaton in St George’s on February 20.

The matter was adjourned in order for the Crown to produce evidence of the phone’s value, and in court today, prosecutor Alan Richards said that it was worth $350.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo gave Wears a conditional discharge on the condition that he pay the $350 in compensation to the courts by May 8.

Mr Tokunbo added that if he failed to do so, he would be in breach of the order and that this could result in a conviction being recorded against him.
