A Warwick man will stand trial this year for a string of alleged traffic offences.

Appearing in Magistrates’ Court this morning, Louis Somner, 55, was charged with driving while disqualified, failing to stop for police and driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs.

He was also charged with failing to provide a sample of breath, not wearing a seatbelt and failing to notify the proper authorities of a change in address.

Mr Somner pleaded not guilty to all the charges, which stem from an alleged incident in Pembroke on June 7.

Senior magistrate Juan Wolffe granted $1,000 bail and set a trial date for August 17.

In a separate matter, 24-year-old Brian Morris was banned from the roads for a year after he pleaded guilty to failing to give a breath sample for analysis.

The Crown accepted his plea and offered no evidence on the alternative charge of driving while impaired.

The court heard that Morris was stopped by police officers on June 6, after they observed him driving the wrong way out of a car park in Pembroke.

When they approached Morris, the officers noted that he almost fell off his bike, appeared unsteady on his feet and smelled of intoxicants.

Morris was taken to Hamilton Police Station, where he refused to give samples of breath for analysis.

In court, Morris apologised for his actions. Mr Wolffe fined him $1,000 and disqualified him from driving all vehicles for 12 months.
