Bermudian fined over fatal crash in UK
A Bermudian driver who caused the death of a young motorcyclist in the UK has been fined £5,000 and banned from the roads for two years.
Malcolm Griffiths was found guilty of causing death by careless driving after a trial at Chichester Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.
The 69-year-old from Landmark Drive, Southampton, was the driver of a vehicle that collided with a motorcycle on the A29 close to the village of Bury, in West Sussex.
The motorcyclist, William Ruewell, 20, died as a result of injuries suffered in the crash.
Mr Griffiths was arrested after the fatal road traffic accident on August 24 last year.
He was initially arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving before later being charged with causing death by careless driving.
A Sussex Police spokesman told The Royal Gazette: “Griffiths was found guilty of causing death by careless driving after a trial at Chichester Magistrates’ Court.
“He was fined £5,000 and ordered to pay £1,800 costs and a £120 victim surcharge. He was also disqualified from driving for two years.”
