A serial traffic offender has been banned from the roads for 18 months.

Gerald Barstowe, of Sandys, pleaded guilty to a string of traffic offences when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court this morning.

The 61-year-old admitted disobeying a traffic sign, failing to stop for Police, driving in a dangerous manner and not having his helmet properly fastened in Pembroke on January 25.

Barstowe also admitted not having insurance and riding an unlicensed motorbike.

The court heard that police officers attempted to stop Barstowe after he turned around when he saw the police car at the junction of Court Street and Dundonald Street.

But Barstowe sped off and turned onto King Street without stopping at a stop sign.

He then turned onto Middle Town Road — a dead end — dropped the bike and ran, but was apprehended by the officers.

When asked if he had anything to say about the incident in court, Barstowe, who is unemployed, said: “It happened and I do apologise.”

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo disqualified Barstowe from driving all vehicles for 18 months and ordered reports to determine his eligibility for community service.

Mr Tokunbo granted $1,500 bail and adjourned the matter to September 23 for sentencing.

Also in court, 18-year-old Sheldon Caesar was fined $800 and given ten demerit points on his licence for driving without due care and attention.

Caesar pleaded guilty to the offence, which took place on Front Street on July 24.
