Burglar jailed for four months
A Hamilton Parish man has been sentenced to four months in prison for burglary.
Roger Darrell, 55, was also given a 30-day prison term for causing wilful damage and another 30 days for theft when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court this morning.
At a previous court appearance, Darrell had pleaded guilty to entering a Hamilton Parish home as a trespasser and wilfully damaging a screen door on June 17.
He also admitted stealing two bottles of rum from Miles Market on April 27, 2013.
Court reports were ordered at that time and Darrell was instructed to observe Drug Treatment Court until his sentencing.
In court today, Darrell said he had attended all his Drug Treatment Court sessions but did not want to participate in the programme.
Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo sentenced him to four month’s imprisonment for the burglary and 30 days each for the other offences, with time already served to be taken into account.
The sentences, which are to run concurrently, will be followed by a two-year probation period.
During this, Darrell is to adhere to all the recommendations in the pre-sentencing report including that he abstain from the use of alcohol or drugs and undergo random drug testing.
