A 43-year-old Hamilton Parish man was granted bail after he admitted unlawfully wounding a woman.

Omar Furquan pleaded guilty to the offence, which took place in Devonshire on August 5, when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court this morning.

Prosecutor Carrington Mahoney told the court that Furquan had bought a motorcycle for the complainant on the agreement that she would pay him back in instalments.

But Furquan took the bike back when he did not receive payment and an argument ensued between the two Dunkley’s Dairy employees when she confronted him about his actions.

Mr Mahoney said that Furquan knocked the complainant to the ground during the argument, punched her the face and hit her in the head with a piece of wood.

The complainant, who suffered serious bruising to the face and eyes, required hospital treatment and eleven stitches.

Defence lawyer Vaughan Caines said Furquan was very sorry and embarrassed and that he had lost his job because of the incident.

Magistrate Archibald Warner ordered a social inquiry report and adjourned the matter to September 29 for sentencing.

Furquan was granted $3,000 bail with a like surety.
