Man, 39, admits stealing from grocery store
A 39-year-old homeless man who admitted stealing coffee, tobacco and food has been granted bail.
Appearing in Magistrates’ Court this morning, Knori Walker pleaded guilty to stealing the items worth a total of $14.04 from the MarketPlace store on Church Street yesterday.
The court heard that Walker was seen taking a medium coffee and a pouch of Samson tobacco and leaving the store without paying at about 5.50am.
Later that day he was seen filling a food tray and eating in the stairwell of the store.
The police were called and an employee took the officers to Walker, who told them that he had no job, no money and was hungry. He also admitted taking the coffee and the Samson.
Walker was taken to Hamilton Police Station, where the pouch of tobacco that he had stolen was recovered from his person.
Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo ordered court reports and adjourned the matter to November 27 for sentencing.
Walker was granted $1,000 bail.
