A Devonshire man who crashed into a motorcyclist while disqualified from driving has been banned from the road for another 18 months.

Michael Dill, 37, pleaded guilty this morning to charges of driving without due care and driving while disqualified.

Prosecutor Maria Sofianos told the court that on the afternoon of October 19, Dill was driving along Montpellier Road when he struck a motorcycle at the junction with Happy Valley Road causing the rider abrasions and bruises.

Dill reportedly got out of the car to assist the rider, putting her motorcycle back on its stand, but then left the area saying: “I have to pick up my daughter. I will be right back.” While the defendant did not return, the rider was able to give police the car’s licence plate number and a description of the driver.

After admitting the offences, Dill apologised for his actions, saying: “My children were stuck in Hamilton. I had to pick them up.”

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo fined Dill $1,000 for driving while disqualified and banned from the road for a further 18 months. For the offence of driving without due care, Dill was fined another $800.
