Remand for cash and jewellery thief

A 36-year-old man who admitted robbing another man of jewellery and cash has been remanded into custody and ordered to observe Drug Treatment Court.

Appearing in Magistrates’ Court on Monday, Robert Damon Green, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to the offence, which took place in Pembroke on August 14 last year.

Prosecutor Alan Richards said Green and an unknown male attended the residence of the complainant, whom Green had known previously.

Green asked to use the bathroom and when he came back out, he told the complainant that he was taking his jewellery and cash because the complainant had disrespected him by not letting him borrow his gold chain on two previous occasions.

Mr Richards said Green gripped the complainant and removed his chain, bracelet, gold ring and $1,600 in cash from his trouser pocket.

Green then told the complainant that he knew that there was more money in the residence and when the complainant told him that there was not, he punched him in the face.

The unknown male then grabbed the complainant in a headlock and the defendant again punched the complainant.

The complainant was able to get away from the men by telling them there were more items in his car and running outside.

Through duty counsel, Green told the court that he committed the offence to fund his substance abuse.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo remanded Green into custody, ordered him to observe Drug Treatment Court and set a mention date for November 9.
