A 50-year-old man who admitted driving dangerously has been fined and banned from the roads for 18 months.

Appearing in Magistrates’ Court this morning, Charles Ratteray, of Sandys, pleaded guilty to the offence, which took place in St George’s on September 9.

He also admitted making a false statement to police.

The court heard that Ratteray was seen speeding on the Causeway by police officers at about 7.24pm.

He was travelling east at a high speed on a motorcycle and while overtaking traffic, he crossed into the westbound lane and into the path of oncoming traffic.

Ratteray continued heading east at high speed and was stopped on Mullet Bay Road, near the Stokes Point Nature Reserve.

He identified himself as Omar Ratteray.

In court today, Ratteray apologised for his actions.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo handed him a $300 fine for giving a false name and a $1,000 fine for driving dangerously.

He also disqualified Ratteray from driving all vehicles for 18 months.
