Man fined for illegal dog breeding
A Devonshire man has been fined $400 for breeding a dog without a licence.
Appearing in Magistrates’ Court this morning, Joao Botelho, 59, pleaded guilty to breeding a Yorkshire terrier cross type dog without holding a licence.
The court heard that wardens attended his Devonshire residence to execute a warrant on June 19.
When asked if there were any puppies in the house, Botelho replied: “Yes.”
Three puppies were seized.
Magistrate Archibald Warner handed Botelho a $400 fine.
In a separate matter, Andre Parsons, of no fixed abode, was ordered to pay more than $8,000 in traffic fines today or face 30 days in prison.
The 35-year-old had three unpaid fines totalling $385 dating back to May 2013.
He was also fined a total of $7,800 today for driving an unlicensed vehicle, as well as driving without a valid driver’s licence and no third party insurance on four occasions between July 24 and October 30.
Parsons also admitted disobeying a traffic sign on September 16 and not wearing a seatbelt on July 24.
Mr Warne said there were committal warrants in Parson’s name for the fines dating back to 2013 and that he would have to pay the commissioner of prisons to be released from custody.
He also ordered Parsons to pay the $7,800 today or face 30 days in prison, which would run concurrent to the 30 days he would have to spend in prison in default of payment for the 2013 fines.
