Woman, 27, handed conditional discharge

A Devonshire woman has been given a 12-month conditional discharge for assaulting and uttering threatening words to another woman.

At a previous Magistrates’ Court appearance, Vaughnika Joseph, 27, had admitted the offence that took place in Hamilton Parish on November 1 last year.

The court heard at that time that Joseph approached the complainant, who was with her daughter and partner, outside the Bermuda Aquarium, Museum and Zoo.

She accused the complainant of taking her money, demanded to know why and slapped her twice in the face.

Joseph then told her that she would “f*** her up” every time she saw her and did not care if she was with her daughter.

During a police interview, Joseph admitted assaulting the woman but disputed what she had said.

In court today, Joseph apologised for letting her emotions get the better of her.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo told her to exercise better judgement and leave the complainant alone.

He handed her a 12-month conditional discharge on the condition that she undergo anger management.
