Pembroke man, 49, admits stealing food
A Pembroke man has admitted stealing $250 worth of food items.
Appearing in Magistrates’ Court this morning, Garrett Burrows, 49, admitted entering Eat Smart kitchen as a trespasser and stealing the food in Pembroke on Wednesday.
Prosecutor Garrett Byrne told the court that Burrows had asked the owner for a job that day but was told that none were available.
When the owner came to work the next day, she discovered that the establishment had been burgled and that food was missing from the freezer.
Mr Byrne added that various inquiries were made and police arrested Burrows, who admitted the offence.
Burrows told the court that he had been driven to steal because he had not been able to find work as a Bermudian in his own country.
“It’s all foreigners that are working there,” he said. “We’re paradise through foreigners, not Bermudians.”
He added that if he went back to jail, he would still be “at square one”.
Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo granted Burrows $1,000 bail, ordered a social inquiry report and adjourned sentencing to March 4.
