A trio of men were banned from the road this morning after they each admitted driving while impaired.

Ryan Richardson, 25, was stopped by police on March 18 after officers recorded him speeding at 76km/h on North Shore Road in Hamilton Parish.

The court heard that when officers approached his vehicle, they noticed he had two passengers and two open bottles of beer in the car’s centre console.

The officers also reported that the Hamilton Parish resident appeared to be disoriented and that his breath smelled of intoxicants. Asked if he had been drinking, Richardson responded: “I took some Nyquil.”

Appearing in court Richardson maintained that he had been on medication, but claimed he was not intoxicated, changing his plea twice before settling on guilty.

Also appearing in court was Harry Smith, 55, who was arrested on Front Street on Sunday. The court heard that at around 3am that day, officers on duty noticed Smith sitting in a stationary car facing north in the westbound lane.

The officers approached Smith to ask if he needed assistance and noticed that he smelled of alcohol and was unsteady on his feet. Asked if he had been drinking, he said: “I had about few.”

Meanwhile Aldo Expozzito, 42, was stopped by officers at around 3am on January 30 after he was seen swerving over the middle line while travelling along South Road.

Officers noticed that his eyes were glazed and that he had difficulty placing his bike on its stand. Questioned, he admitted having six beers.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo fined each man $1,200, banning them from driving all vehicles for a period of 18 months.
