Two charged in connection with murder
Two Sandys men appeared in Magistrates’ Court yesterday charged in connection with the fatal shooting of Lorenzo Stovell.
Mr Stovell was killed by a gunman riding a motorcycle as he sat aboard a minibus near Woody’s bar in Sandys on September 23, 2012. The 24-year-old was in a wheelchair at the time of the attack, having previously suffered partial paralysis in a previous shooting.
Zikai Cann, 26, was charged with unlawfully killing Mr Stovell and using a firearm to commit an indictable offence on the same date.
Cordova Simons-Marshall, was also charged with handling a firearm, a 9mm Smith and Wesson autoloading pistol, and knowingly assisting a person who committed a felony, specifically murder, escape punishment.
Mr Cann appeared before the court in custody and on crutches, while Mr Marshall was on police bail and in a wheelchair.
Mr Marshall was represented in court by Elizabeth Christopher, while Mr Cann was represented by Charles Richardson.
Neither defendant was required to plea as the matter must be heard by the Supreme Court. They remained silent throughout proceedings.
Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo ordered the men to appear before the Supreme Court on May 2.
Mr Cann was remanded into custody, while Mr Marshall was released on $25,000 bail with a like surety on the condition that he surrender all travel documents and report to the police twice a week.
