Man admits sex offence against girl
A 40-year-old man today admitted sexually touching a ten-year-old girl in a school bathroom.
Craivon Seymour, from St George’s, pleaded guilty in Magistrates’ Court to one count of sexually touching the victim, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, and two counts of intruding on the privacy of the same girl.
The first two incidents took place on an unknown date between January 1 and June 30, 2015, while the final incident took place on May 10 this year after the victim had turned 11.
The court heard that last year, the girl told her guardian that the defendant had touched her sexually and kissed her on the mouth in an incident in a school bathroom.
The incident was reported to police, who interviewed the complainant about what happened.
A second incident took place on May 10 of this year, in which the defendant again reportedly intruded on the girl’s privacy in a school bathroom.
Seymour was subsequently arrested and, while he initially refused to comment, he later admitted sexually touching the girl in a bathroom stall some time in 2015 and kissing her on her mouth and cheek.
He reportedly told officers that he thought the child had been flirting with him, saying he thought she liked him because she hugged him in the school’s parking lot.
Seymour, who wore a T-shirt adorned with a Disney cartoon character, remained silent after pleading guilty.
Prosecutor Maria Sofianos told the court that the Crown was seeking an immediate custodial sentence, and no application for bail was pursued.
Senior magistrate Juan Wolffe remanded Seymour into custody, ordering psychiatric and social inquiry reports, including a sex offender risk assessment.
