A fight broke out between two women at the vigil of Cup Match cricketer Fiqre Crockwell.

Shauniesha Brimmer followed Chenae Rodrigues, the twin sister of Mr Crockwell’s girlfriend Jenae, into the bathroom at the remembrance event in St David’s County Cricket Club on Tuesday last week.

Brimmer, the mother of Mr Crockwell’s child, lashed out at Ms Rodrigues during a scuffle on the floor, leaving her with minor injuries, Magistrates’ Court heard yesterday.

The 28-year-old former Paget resident, who lives in Britain, admitted assaulting Ms Rodrigues.

However, she was given an absolute discharge by senior magistrate Juan Wolffe, who accepted that the matter was a one-off in an emotionally charged environment and the risk of reoffending was very low.

“This was supposed to be an event to honour the life of Mr Crockwell, and it turned into something else,” he told Brimmer.

“You must learn to control your emotions. Not just for yourself, but for your daughter.”

Ms Rodrigues said in a written statement: “It was like a blur. I remember screaming when she came at me.”

The complainant emerged from the incident with injuries including a pain in her neck and head, while Brimmer was arrested and taken to Hamilton Police Station.

Defending, Charles Richardson said that the two women had an “acrimonious relationship”.

He said of his client: “There has been some ill will between them, and emotions came to the surface. She accepts that she acted irrationally.”

Brimmer conceded that the daughter that she shared with Mr Crockwell witnessed the aftermath of the fight.

“It was heat of the moment and I’m sincerely sorry,” added the mother of two, who has no previous convictions. Mr Crockwell, 30, was fatally wounded in the area of Woodlands Road shortly before 3am on June 20, as revellers left a Bermuda Heroes Weekend function at the BAA car park.

Kirk Butterfield, 46, was stabbed in the same incident, sustaining injuries that were not life-threatening, although police have not yet established if the two crimes were linked.

Two men, aged 26 and 31, were placed in police custody days later in connection with the shooting.
