Man denies smuggling items into Westgate
A Sandys man has denied having cannabis on the grounds of Westgate Correctional Facility.
Jahroy Simons, 30, pleaded not guilty to possessing 12.37 grams of the drug in an increased penalty zone and attempting to convey contraband into the prison. Both charges relate to an incident on June 30 last year. Among the items he allegedly tried to smuggle into the prison were a Samsung mobile phone, a phone battery, a Sim card, a USB adaptor and tobacco.
Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo released Mr Simons on $5,000 bail, ordering that he return to the court on August 31 for the matter to be mentioned and a trial date set.
