A Sandys man this morning formally denied causing the death of 22-year-old motorcyclist Azah Dowling.

Che Morrisey, 26, pleaded not guilty in the Supreme Court to a charge of causing the death of Mr Dowling by careless driving.

Mr Dowling died on March 25 this year after his bike collided with a car in front of the Maximart grocery store, in Sandys. His death was the third on the island’s roads this year.

Puisne Judge Charles-Etta Simmons adjourned the matter until the January arraignments session, releasing Mr Morrisey on $5,000 bail until then.

The matter was one of several appearing before the courts, with several trial and sentencing dates set.

Shantoine Prinston Burrows, 25, is set to return to the courts on January 9 to be sentenced for the fatal shooting of Rickai Swan, who was killed on the evening of October 23 last year. The court also heard that Burrows is seeking to appeal his conviction.’

Meanwhile Wakeem Philpott, 21, and Deter Ford, 23, were given a trial date of May 2 for charges related to a home invasion in St George’s.

Both men have denied the charges, which include possessing a firearm and stealing a wallet and its contents.
