Men deny drugs charges

A 27-year-old Southampton man has denied importing cannabis and possessing the drug with intent to supply.

Appearing in Magistrates’ Court this morning, Davin Riley-Clarke also pleaded not guilty to another charge of cannabis possession and having two grinders.

Mr Riley-Clarke is accused of importing cannabis and possessing the drugs with intent to supply in St George’s on June 29 last year.

He is also accused of possessing cannabis, as well as one metal and one plastic grinder, in Southampton on the same date.

According to Cindy Clarke, the Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions, the drugs weighed “just over” 5kg and would have had a street value of $250,000 if sold in twists.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo released Mr Riley-Clarke, who consented to be tried in Magistrates’ Court, on $80,000 bail with a like surety.

Mr Riley-Clarke was also ordered to surrender his travel documents and report to police three times a week. He will stand trial on June 8.

In a separate matter, 26-year-old Maxwell Hayward denied possessing “just over” 40g cannabis and 28.42g of cannabis resin intended for supply in Hamilton Parish on September 3 last year.

Mr Hayward, of Hamilton Parish, consented to a Magistrates’ Court trial and was granted $10,000 bail with a like surety.

Mr Tokunbo also ordered him to report to police three times a week, abide by a nightly curfew and notify the courts if he moves. A trial date was set for May 2.
