Warwick man banned from roads
A 27-year-old Warwick man has been fined and banned from the roads for failing to provide a breath sample.
Appearing in Magistrates’ Court this morning, Patraic Castle pleaded guilty to the offence that happened in Warwick on January 30.
The court heard that police spotted a car parked in a bus lay-by on Middle Road. Castle was in the driver’s seat with his eyes closed and his head tilted.
He did not respond when the officers knocked on the window and when they opened the door, they could smell intoxicants.
Castle responded after the officers shook his shoulder and they saw that his eyes were red.
When asked his name, his reply was incoherent and he was unable to tell officers his address.
But he admitted to having had a “few drinks”. However, he repeatedly failed to reply to demands for samples of breath for analysis.
Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo fined him $800 and disqualified him from driving all vehicles for 12 months.
