Court reports were today ordered on a Warwick man who was caught riding a stolen jet ski.

Magistrates’ Court heard that on July 19, the jet ski’s owner had left it secured at Burchall’s Cove, but when he returned the next day it had been stolen.

Police the following day got a report of two men riding a jet ski in a dangerous manner.

When officers arrived in the area, they found Daneko Cann-Hayward and a second man on the jet ski, making a series of hard turns and spinning in circles until the vehicle stalled.

Officers noticed that the jet ski’s kill switch had been “jury rigged” with an elastic band when they examined the machine.

They later discovered that it was the jet ski stolen from Burchall’s Cove.

Cann-Hayward, 19, pleaded guilty this to charges of taking a jet ski without the owner’s consent and riding it in a dangerous manner.

Cann Hayward apologised for his action and asked for leniency.

He told Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo: “This was a silly mistake and it will never happen again.

“It was an embarrassment for myself and my family.”

Mr Tokunbo deferred sentence until a Social Inquiry Report could be carried out on Cann-Hayward and released him on $2,000 bail.
