A Devonshire resident has been handed a $500 fine after pleading guilty to uttering menacing words.

It stems from an incident in St George’s last week.

Magistrates’ Court heard that 32-year-old Ezra Ararat was having an argument with his girlfriend at King’s Square on September 28 at around 1.30pm.

Ararat was upset and being arrested earlier in the day, and demanded the number of the complainant from his girlfriend.

Court heard that Ararat phoned the complainant and told her: “Listen to me, I will f*** you up, you know.”

He was arrested the following day at Hamilton Police Station.

Asked about the incident at the station, Ararat told police: “Yes I said it. It wasn’t a threat, it was a warning.”

Ararat told court this morning: “I’m sorry for my actions and what I said.”

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo said that a conditional discharge on the matter was not in the interest of the public and handed Ararat a $500 fine.
