An unlicensed motorist has been banned from the roads for 18 months after he was caught driving his car at 100km/h.

Miguel Camara was stopped by police on South Road in Smith’s, near McGall’s Hill, on April 18, this year.

Questioned why he was “flying” by Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo yesterday, Camara, who has 36 points on his licence already, told Magistrates’ Court: “I was going through a rough time”.

The court heard that the 33-year-old had several previous convictions for speeding and also driving without a licence.

Mr Tokunbo imposed an 18-month driving ban on Camara as well as a $1,300 fine.

Camara urged the Magistrate to allow him to keep his licence so he could travel to work.

But in rejecting his plea Mr Tokunbo said: “Maybe now you will consider getting a valid licence and travelling within the law.”

Camara, from Spanish Point, admitted speeding and driving without a licence.
