A 59-year-old man who pleaded guilty to leading police on a pursuit was remanded to drug treatment court

Brian Fleming, of Hamilton Parish, pleaded guilty to driving in a dangerous manner, failing to stop for police, use of an unlicensed motorbike and having no third-party insurance in Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

The court heard that officers attempted to stop Fleming on Hamilton’s Wesley Street at about 3am on August 27, 2015.

Fleming accelerated and drove up the pedestrian footpath connecting Wesley Street and Par-la-Ville Road.

He did a U-turn and drove the wrong way around the roundabout at Wesley and Dundonald Streets before riding down Dundonald Street.

The pursuit continued until officers lost sight of Fleming on Brae Road.

A few days later, one of the officers involved in the pursuit spotted Fleming at a Warwick business and arrested him.

Fleming told police: “I won’t be kept in, will I? I will work with you if they don’t keep me in.”

He told Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo: “I apologise. It will never happen again.”

Mr Tokunbo said that Fleming had 11 warrants, seven of them for more than $3,000 in unpaid fines.

He added: “One thing is clear, you don’t come to court.”

Mr Tokunbo remanded Fleming in custody to attend Tuesday’s session of Drug Treatment Court and ordered reports.
