Front Street drink driver banned and fined
A 22-year-old woman who drove while more than twice the legal alcohol limit was today fined and banned from the roads.
Jenny Tester, 22, pleaded guilty in Magistrates’ Court to drink driving on Front Street.
The court heard that Tester, of St George’s, was stopped by police after her car almost hit a police officer who was crossing the street near the junction with Parliament Street at about 2.50am.
Officers noticed that her eyes were glazed and her breath smelled of alcohol — but Tester denied that she had been drinking.
She was arrested and taken to Hamilton Police Station where a breath test showed that she had 165 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood — the legal limit is 80/100.
The offence happened on May 20.
Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo fined her $1,200 and banned her from driving for 18 months.
