A 25-year-old motorcyclist was fined $1,200 after crashing with a car while over the drink-driving limit.

Jayone Bailey, of Southampton, pleaded guilty to impaired driving in Magistrates’ Court this morning.

The court heard that Bailey’s motorcycle was involved in a collision with a car of Camp Road, near South Road, at about 7.30pm on February 28. He was transported to hospital with cuts to his hands and left shoulder, and facial injuries.

While in hospital, police noted that Bailey’s eyes were glazed, his speech was slurred, and his breath smelled of alcohol.

When asked if he had been drinking, Bailey told officers: “I had a couple of Elephants at Rangers.”

Bailey also told police that he did not remember being involved in a crash.

Two samples of blood were collected from Bailey but could not be analysed as the incorrect vials were used.

In addition to the fine, senior magistrate Juan Wolffe also disqualified Bailey from operating any vehicle for 18 months.

Bailey was also fined $150 and given five points from driving without a licence.
