Two men were fined and banned from the road for drink driving-related offences.

Rui Mendes, 31, admitted driving a bike while over the legal alcohol limit.

Magistrates’ Court heard on Friday that police saw Mendes, of Pembroke, try to overtake another vehicle before clipping it with his bike.

When they pulled him over they suspected he had been drinking alcohol and discovered he had no driver’s licence.

A breath sample at Hamilton Police Station confirmed that he was over the legal limit.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo banned him from the road for 18 months and fined him $1,200 for the drink driving offence.

Mendes was also fined $150 for having no driver’s licence.

The incident happened on May 3 in Paget.

In a separate case, Geno Jones, 23, admitted a refusal to give a breath sample after he was arrested on suspicion of drink driving.

The court heard Jones, of Sandys, was spotted by police as he drove a car on Southampton’s Middle Road on August 2.

He was pulled over after he almost crashed into another car.

Officers noticed his eyes were glazed, his breath smelled of alcohol and he was unsteady on his feet.

Jones denied drink driving but admitted he refused to take a breath test.

Mr Tokunbo banned him from driving for 12 months and fined him $800.
