A homeless man charged with an assault on a woman and abusive behaviour was remanded in custody yesterday while his fitness to enter a plea is examined.

Junior Ming, known as “Scientist”, pleaded guilty to the offences.

However, he will undergo a mental health assessment after his lawyer, Jonathan White, admitted he doubted his client’s ability to enter a plea.

It is alleged Mr Ming, 51, committed the offences on April 24 on South Road in Paget.

Mr White told the court that Mr Ming had undergone a mental assessment by the Mid-Atlantic Wellness Clinic and was judged fit to be interviewed by police.

But he said he feared his client did not have enough mental awareness to enter a plea.

Magistrate Maxanne Anderson remanded Mr Ming in custody and adjourned the case to May 9.
