A woman was banned from the roads for three years after she admitted drink driving.

Karen Cannonier, 61, pleaded guilty in Magistrates’ Court yesterday to driving while over the legal blood-alcohol limit.

The court heard that Cannonier was stopped during a roadside sobriety check in Devonshire.

She admitted to police officers that she had consumed four glasses of wine but felt safe to drive home.

Police suspected Cannonier of driving while impaired and arrested her.

She told police: “I’m not drunk, I’m innocent.”

Cannonier was taken to the Hamilton Police Station and offered a sample of breath for analysis.

The test showed that she had 108 milligrams of alcohol in every 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit is 80mg/100ml.

The incident took place on April 4.

Magistrate Maxanne Anderson fined Cannonier, from Devonshire, $2,500 in addition to her ban and ordered her to pay by October 23.
