A man was banned from the roads for 18 months after he admitted riding while more than 2½ times over the legal alcohol limit.

Daniel Patterson, 25, pleaded guilty to driving while impaired in Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

The court heard that Patterson was stopped at a roadside sobriety checkpoint on Crow Lane, Pembroke.

He told police: “I had 2½ Elephants and shots.”

Officers arrested Patterson on suspicion of driving while impaired and took him to the Hamilton Police Station.

A breath test revealed that Patterson had 207 milligrams of alcohol in every 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit is 80mg/100ml.

The incident took place on May 25.

Senior magistrate Juan Wolffe also ordered Patterson, from Devonshire, to pay a $1,500 fine by October 14.
