A man has been charged in connection with the death of a footballer more than 18 months ago.

It was alleged in Magistrates’ Court that Taaj Muhammad, from St George’s, unlawfully killed Ronniko Burchall on December 30, 2018,

The 25-year-old was also charged on Monday with using a firearm in an indictable offence, “namely the murder of” Mr Burchall.

Mr Muhammad did not enter a plea because the case must be heard in the Supreme Court.

Simone Smith-Bean, his lawyer, told the court: “My client maintains that he had nothing at all to do with this murder, whatsoever.”

Senior magistrate Juan Wolffe adjourned the case until September 1.

He released the defendant on $30,000 bail and ordered him to report to police three times a week.

Mr Wolffe also said Mr Muhammad must wear an electronic monitor and stick to a 10pm to 6am curfew.

Mr Burchall, 30, from Pembroke, was a goalkeeper for Boulevard Community Club.

He was shot as he got on his motorcycle in the car park of St David’s County Cricket Club and died later.
