Community service for drink driver
A Southampton man who was caught drink driving on an unlicensed motorcycle was banned from the roads for two years and given community service.
Magistrates’ Court heard Leroy Smith, 37, was stopped by police on South Road, Southampton, on June 14.
He failed a breathalyser test and, while he was at Hamilton Police Station, it was confirmed that his vehicle was unlicensed and had no insurance, and that he had no driving licence.
Smith was fined $1,500 for drink driving, $350 for having an unlicensed vehicle, $1,500 for having no insurance, and $200 for having no driving licence. The court heard he was unemployed, and the fines were converted into community service.
A social inquiry report was ordered to assess the conditions of community service.
He was disqualified from driving for 24 months.
