Police constable denies assaulting wife

A police officer has denied a string of charges, including two counts of assaulting his wife.

A Bermuda Police Service spokesman subsequently confirmed the constable had been suspended from duty.

Pc Sean Kelly, 39, pleaded not guilty at Magistrates’ Court yesterday to two counts of assault against Rebekah Kelly while in an increased penalty zone.

The incidents are alleged to have happened on October 9 last year near Saltus Grammar School in Pembroke and on December 29 last year in a Warwick playground.

Mr Kelly also pleaded not guilty to using threatening words against Mrs Kelly and causing $1,400 of damage to her car on October 9 last year in Pembroke.

He also denied the use of threatening words against Victor Fishington on December 29 last year in Warwick.

Senior magistrate Juan Wolffe adjourned the case until September 14 and released Mr Kelly, from Sandys, on $1,500 bail on condition he has no contact with his alleged victims.
