Motorcyclist fined after causing crash

A man was fined and banned from the road for six months after he admitted causing a crash.

Leroy Bartram, 45, pleaded guilty in Magistrates’ Court to driving without due care and attention.

The court heard that Bartram’s motorbike collided with a woman motorcyclist as she left the Hamilton Seventh-day Adventist Church car park on King Street on February 24.

The motorcyclist made a right turn up King Street and Bartram overtook several cars that had stopped to let her out and collided with her.

The woman complained of pain to her hip and lower back and was taken to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

Prosecutor Carrington Mahoney said that she sustained “soft tissue damage” to her back.

He added that both vehicles had minor damage.

Magistrate Maxanne Anderson also fined Bartram, from Devonshire, $750.
