A woman whose car knocked over a traffic cone at a Royal Bermuda Regiment road checkpoint has been banned from driving and fined after she admitted being at the wheel while more than three times the legal alcohol limit.

Carmen Wilkinson, 43, from Pembroke, was driving a car on June 30 at 11.25pm when it knocked over the cone at a Covid-19 checkpoint on Crow Lane, near Hamilton, Magistrates’ Court heard yesterday.

Wilkinson admitted that she had been drinking.

Nicole Smith, a senior Crown counsel, said the defendant was found to have 241 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit is 80mg/100ml.

Senior magistrate Juan Wolffe sentenced Wilkinson to an 18-month driving ban and fined her $1,000.

Wilkinson was ordered to pay the fine by November 15.
