Law catches up to speeding motorcyclist

A man who evaded a speeding charge for three years was fined more than $1,000 after police found a warrant for his arrest when he was pulled over for speeding in February.

Thomas Heyliger-Crane, 26, pleaded guilty in Magistrates’ Court to speeding at 81km/h and riding without the proper licence in 2017. He also pleaded guilty to speeding at 66km/h this year.

The court heard that Heyliger-Crane was stopped by police on North Shore Road in Devonshire for riding a motorcycle at 81km/h — more than double the 35km/h speed limit.

Police also discovered that he had a licence for an auxiliary cycle, but not a motorcycle.

Heyliger-Crane was supposed to have attended Magistrates’ Court in March 2017, but he did not appear.

He was stopped on February 13 in St George’s after he was caught speeding and police discovered that the outstanding warrant.

Senior magistrate Juan Wolffe fined Heyliger-Crane, from St George’s, $1,030, to be paid by November 1.
