Bus driver takes responsibility for rear ending car

A bus driver was fined $800 after he rear-ended a car.

Magistrates’ Court heard that Leroy Burt, 65, drove his bus along Middle Road in Paget and glanced at the bus layby to see if there were any passengers waiting.

During this time, a car in front of him had stopped to make a left-hand turn onto Bostock Hill East.

Burt hit his brakes when he realised the car had stopped, but the bus failed to stop in time and rear-ended the car.

The incident happened on October 28 last year.

The court heard that the car received “extensive rear end damage” but that no one was injured.

Burt, from Devonshire, apologised for the incident and told the court he had had a flawless record until the incident.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo ordered Burt to pay the $800 fine for driving without due care by June 3.
