A drink-driver who police saw get off his bike man while it was still running has been ordered to take part in a treatment programme.

Davon Gibbs, 30, from Pembroke, admitted driving while under the influence of alcohol when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

Adley Duncan, for the Crown, said police officers were on North Shore Road in Devonshire on August 16 when they saw Gibbs get off his bike near Barker’s Hill while the engine was still running.

When officers approached him, he admitted to drinking alcohol before getting on his bike and told them he was “trying to get home”.

Gibbs, who was convicted of the same offence four years ago, admitted to senior magistrate Maxanne Anderson that he had a problem with alcohol abuse.

Ms Anderson disqualified him from driving all vehicles until further notice from the court and ordered that he take part in DUI Court beginning on October 18. Gibbs was released on $1,500 bail until that time.

Ms Anderson also ordered that court services conduct a recovery assessment report for Gibbs.
