A Devonshire resident was taken off the roads for 18 months after pleading guilty to drink-driving.

Winton Scott, 68, admitted the offence in Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

Javone Rogers, for the Crown, told the court that police stopped Scott at a traffic light by Church Street on September 5 because his bike was unlicensed.

When they spoke to him, officers noticed that Scott was unsteady on his feet and that his breath smelt of alcohol.

He was taken to Hamilton Police Station, where a breath test revealed that he had between 140 and 158 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit for driving in Bermuda is 80mg/100ml.

In addition to being banned for 18 months, Scott was ordered to pay a $1,500 fine and enrol in a drink-driving treatment programme beginning on November 1.

Magistrate Tyrone Chin also ordered that a recovery assessment report be conducted for Scott.
