Police were forced to take evasive action to avoid an accident after a car cut them off as it turned on to a road, a court heard today.

Prosecutor Javone Rogers told Magistrates’ Court that on September 25, David Sykes, 62, turned on to North Shore Road in Hamilton Parish, forcing police to get out of his way.

They stopped Sykes, who was later found to have 111 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit for driving in Bermuda is 80mg/100ml.

Sykes, of Hamilton Parish, pleaded guilty to drink-driving and was banned from the roads for 18 months and fined $1,200.
