The rider of a bike that hit a car travelling in the opposite direction has been fined and banned from the roads.

Nuno De Sousa Camara, 44, from St George’s, pleaded guilty to driving while impaired by alcohol when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court today.

Prosecutor Adley Duncan said that on October 19, Camara was riding his bike near the junction of Middle Road and Woodlawn Road, in Sandys, when it hit a car driving in the other direction.

Police smelt alcohol on Camara’s breath and saw that his eyes were red. He admitted to drinking before getting on his bike and was taken to Hamilton Police Station, where a Breathalyser test revealed that he had 193.6 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit for driving in Bermuda is 80mg/100ml.

In addition to being banned, Camara was fined $1,200.
