Three months prison for man found with home made drug pipes

Magistrates' Court

A man who was found with two home-made drug pipes has been sentenced to three months behind bars.

Jason Liburd, 52, from Pembroke, pleaded guilty in Magistrates’ Court to possessing drug equipment.

Prosecutor Cindy Clarke said that police took Liburd to Hamilton Police Station for an unrelated matter on December 3 last year.

When they searched him, officers saw that he had two pipes made from Hennessey bottles, which contained traces of cocaine, in his pockets.

Liburd told the court that he was getting help for his addiction through the Department of Corrections’ Right Living House programme, run at the Co-Ed facility in St George’s, and was set to complete the programme in February.

Senior magistrate Maxanne Anderson ordered that Liburd serve two years’ probation after his prison sentence so that he can get all the help that he needs.
