Conditional discharge for woman who punched police officer
A woman who punched a police officer while being arrested on New Year’s Day was given a six-month conditional discharge.
Samirah Muhammad, 22, from Sandys, pleaded guilty to violently resisting arrest when she appeared in Magistrates’ Court.
Police were called to a dispute near Newstead Belmont Hills in Paget and tried to break up an altercation between Muhammad and a man, the court was told.
Muhammad then became aggressive towards the officers. They handcuffed her and took her to Hamilton Police Station.
Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo said he hoped Muhammad had learnt from the experience and warned her to keep out of trouble for six months or have her sentence changed.
