Man caught with cocaine at police station sentenced to drug treatment court
A man caught with cocaine after being taken to Hamilton Police Station has been ordered to participate in a drug treatment court programme.
Ricardo Morais Santos, 31, from Warwick, admitted having the drug when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
The court heard that in June last year, Santos was taken to the station for an unrelated matter and was searched. Officers found a white powder inside his wallet.
A laboratory analysis revealed the substance to be 0.61 grams of cocaine with a 69 per cent purity.
In addition to attending treatment court, magistrate Craig Attridge ordered that a social inquiry report, as well as an alcohol and drug use assessment, be conducted for Santos, who began participating in the programme immediately.
