Drink driver loses licence for 18 months after crashing car

Magistrates' Court

A woman who was more than double the legal drink-driving limit when she got into a car crash has been banned from the roads for 18 months.

Andrea Bean, 39, from Southampton, admitted to drink-driving when she appeared in Magistrates’ Court today.

The court heard that Bean was driving along Berry Hill Road on November 23, 2022, when she hit the brakes and lost control, striking a wall.

Bean attended a nearby doctor’s office after the accident and police were soon called to the scene.

While talking to her, officers noticed that Bean’s eyes were red and her breath smelt of alcohol.

She was taken to Hamilton Police Station, where a Breathalyser test revealed she had between 199 and 205 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit for driving in Bermuda is 80mg/100ml.

In addition to being banned, Bean was fined $1,200.
