Police spotted rider swaying on his bike, court told

Magistrates' Court

A man who persistently rode his bike over the centre line on Front Street has been ordered to participate in a court treatment programme.

Stefan Lambert, 32, from Devonshire, pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of alcohol when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court.

The court heard that on February 23, police saw Lambert persistently swaying left and right on his bike on Front Street and struggling to keep his balance.

After stopping him, officers smelt alcohol on his breath and took him to the Hamilton Police Station.

Senior magistrate Maxanne Anderson disqualified Lambert from driving all vehicles until further notice and ordered that he participate in DUI Court.

She also ordered that a drug and alcohol assessment be conducted for him and released him on $1,500 bail.
