Court told rider almost three times over drink-drive limit

Police arrested a man who was almost three times above the legal drink-driving limit after he struck a car while riding his bike.

Tamauri Tucker, 34, from Smith’s, pleaded guilty to drink-driving when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

The court heard that on February 16, officers attended the collision scene on North Shore Road, Devonshire, and saw that both Tucker’s bike and the car he collided with were damaged.

While speaking with him, officers also noticed that he was impaired and took him to Hamilton Police Station.

A breathalyser test showed that Tucker had 229 milligrams of alcohol within 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit for driving in Bermuda is 80mg/100ml.

Senior magistrate Maxanne Anderson ordered that Tucker participate in DUI Court and released him on $1,500 bail.

He was also disqualified from driving all vehicles until further notice.
