Former OBA MP Leah Scott fined for crash which injured woman
A former deputy leader of the One Bermuda Alliance has been fined $1,000 for a 2021 traffic collision that left a woman injured.
Leah Scott, 63, from Sandys, was originally charged with the more serious offence of causing grievous bodily harm to Kylah Stowe through driving without due care, which she denied.
However, she pleaded guilty to the lesser offence of driving without due care in Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
Alan Richards, for the Crown, accepted the plea.
“Ms Stowe did sustain some injuries, but in all of the circumstances of this matter, I am prepared to accept that they did not rise to the level required for grievous bodily harm,” he said.
“There was also some slight damage to the vehicles involved.”
Mr Richards told the court that Ms Stowe was travelling west on Somerset Road on a motorcycle at about 8.30pm on September 4, 2021.
He said Ms Stowe slowed and had come to a stop as she prepared to pull into Four Star Pizza when she was struck from behind by a car driven by Scott.
Mr Richards said the impact pushed Ms Stowe into the eastbound lane, where she collided with another vehicle.
Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo fined Scott $1,000 for the offence and issued her ten demerit points.
Scott was first elected as the MP for Southampton East Central in 2012. She served as Minister without Portfolio and Junior Minister for Education under the OBA Government.
She was Deputy Opposition Leader from 2018 until losing her seat to the Progressive Labour Party’s Jason Wade in 2020.
